Both players have contributed greatly towards the sport of Rugby League over the years and have shared a deep friendship both on and off the footy field. Both Preston and Clinton retired from the game in 2011 and continue to support the community through their charities FABruary and The Preston Campbell Foundation.
Clinton Toopi is a proud Maori with Tongan heritage. He began his first grade career began with the Auckland Warriors in 1999 and went on to play 119 games for the club. In 2000 Toopi was part of the Aotearoa Maori side that played at the World Cup. Toops represented New Zealand 22 times and then went to play for Leeds Rhinos in the UK Super League, before returning to the NRL where he finished his impressive career alongside Preston Campbell in 2011 at the Gold Coast Titans.
Toops runs FABruary, aiming to educate and inspire communities to make informed decisions that benefit overall health and wellbeing. FABruary's ultimate goal is to increase individuals quality of life and decrease the obesity epidemic and the health related risks type 2 diabetes and heart related diseases throughout Australia and New Zealand.
Preston Campbell, a proud Kamilaroi man from Tingha (NSW) played a staggering 267 first grade NRL games. Preston was awarded the 2001 Dally M Player for the year and received the Ken Stephen Medal in 2008 for his tireless work with Indigenous communities. Preston has always been passionate about giving back to rugby league and to his community, and went on to found the NRL All Stars in 2010.
Established in 2016, the Preston Campbell Foundation is an endeavour of passion by Preston Campbell and the team he inspires. The foundation supports Preston’s vision of developing programs and opportunities, which inspire and mentor participants to achieve their aspirations and dreams. Accomplished by connecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with their culture, sense of place and well being.
Preston shares his journey with individuals, families and communities through a variety of learning forums to inspire all of us to ‘live above the line’.
